Uppsala University's Linnaeus Medal (Linnémealjen) was awarded for the first time on Carl von Linnaeus' 300th anniversary on May 23, 2007. The Linnaeus Medal has been awarded to Professor Leif Andersson at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Reason:
Leif Andersson, professor of functional genomics, has for many years led a prominent research group on studies of pet genetics. This has subsequently been shown to have very great relevance also for the emergence mechanisms of several human diseases.
