Two postdoc positions in Medical Biochemistry

At the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. Starting date: autumn 2019, or as otherwise agreed.

We seek highly motivated scientists with an interest in pursuing a postdoctoral career in medical biochemistry with specialization in tumor biology. The project focuses on the signal transduction pathways of transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), with the aim to understand mechanisms of tumor cell differentiation, invasion of the microenvironment and initiation of new tumors.

Project description:

Transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) guide major signaling pathways in a variety of human tissues. Our laboratory has established mechanisms of crosstalk between these pathways in regulation of cell proliferation, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and stemness. The two projects will attempt to a) analyse a set of genome-wide transcriptomic data with the aim to characterize differentiation states in breast and brain tumors. Emphasis on non-coding RNAs and application of 3D organoid technology, together with use of R-language for the statistical and bioinformatic analysis of gene profiles will form the ground of this project. b) To study the dynamics of oxidation state and mitochondrial physiology in brain tumor cells. Emphasis will be on the establishment of in vivo tumor assays for tumor initiation and invasiveness-metastasis.

Qualifications: The people we seek must possess a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Molecular Biology or a related field. A M.Sc. on bioinformatics will be positively considered. She/he should have skills in cell biology, biochemistry, bioinformatic analysis tools and mouse models for cancer. The published work of the candidate will have strong impact.

The postdoctoral fellows will perform research for their own benefit. The fellowship can maximally last for 2 years. Salary rates will be followed according to the departmental guidelines for postdocs under a fellowship program
